Dover, Del. (Nov. 30, 2015) --- Delaware State defensive end Gabe Sherrod (jr.; Perryville, Md.) has been selected to the 2015 All-MEAC First Team, in voting by league head coaches and sports information directors announced today.
Linebacker Malik Harris (so.; Washington, D.C.) is the only other Hornet honored by the league, earning third team recognition.
Sherrod was tops in the MEAC and second among all NCAA FCS players in tackles-for-loss at 2.3 per game. He had 25 total tackles behind the line-of-scrimmage for minus-116 yards during the 2015 season.
In addition, Sherrod was third in the MEAC and 18th in the nation in sacks at 0.73 per game (eight total) this past season.
His 2015 totals also included two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four blocked kicks and four quarterback hurries.
Sherrod is DSU's first All-MEAC First Team selection since Rodney Gunter (DL) and Milton Williams III (WR) in 2013.
Harris was third in the MEAC in solo tackles at 5.0 per game (55 total), seventh in tackles-for-loss (1.3 pg; 14.5 total) and eighth in total tackles (9.5 pg; 104 total).
He was tops on the Hornets in tackles, and also credited with 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, interception (46-yard return) and two pass break-ups.
North Carolina A&T running back Tarik Cohen (jr.) was selected as 2015 MEAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year, while South Carolina State defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (sr.) is the voters' choice for top defender.
Brandon Parker of NCA&T was named MEAC Offensive Lineman-of-the-Year; North Carolina Central running back Dorrel McClain is the league's top rookie; and Bethune-Cookman's Terry Sims was selected by his peers as Coach-of-the-Year.
Sims led the Wildcats to a 9-2 overall record and 7-1 league mark to share the conference championship with North Carolina A&T and NC Central in his first season as head coach pf the Wildcats.
