THE GAME
The Hornets are home for the first time since Dec. 10 to take on Cheyney in their final tune-up before the start of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. Delaware State has been idle since a respectable 66-56 loss to Temple on Dec. 28. The Owls were coming off a 77-52 win over then No. 10 Kansas in their previous game. Temple hit eight three-point field goals in the second half to hold off the Hornets. DSU hung around for much of the second half after trailing by 14 points early in the contest. Temple  led 31-21 at the break, but DSU cut the deficit to four (34-30) after a three-pointer by Amere May with 16:02 left to play. The Hornets pulled to within 52-43 at the 7:45 mark of the second half, and trailed 59-51 with 2:56 remaining in the game. May led all players with 22 points in the contest. Kendall Gray added 11 points and 15 rebounds to record his seventh double-double of the season, while Aric Dickerson came off the bench to score a season-high 11 points for the Hornets in the Temple contest. Dickerson's performance was highlighted by three-of-four shooting from three-point territory. May is the Hornets' leading scorer at 19.4 points per game. He's also second on the squad with 24 three-point field goals (24-69). Gray is second on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg) and tops in rebounding (10.8 pg) and blocks (38). Tyshawn Bell is DSU's third-leading scorer at 10.9 points per game and is the team leader with 25 three-pointers (25-62). Charles Burley is tops on the Hornets with 36 assists.   

Cheyney brings an 11-game losing streak into the contest. The Wolves are coming off a 95-80 loss to Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday. Kevin Larkin led four Cheyney players in double figures with 18 points in the contest . Darryl Bryant and Juwan Mullen scored 13 points each for the Wolves vs. Pitt-Johnstown Larkin leads the Wolves in scoring at 18.7 points per game. He also has a team-high 36 three-point baskets. Jerrod Johnson is second on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game, and is tops in rebounding (5.2) and assists (44). Rasahn Brinkley is Cheyney's third leading scorer at 9.0 points per game.   

DSU vs. CHEYNEY SERIES HISTORY (Cheyney leads 8-1).
This will be the 10th contest between the Hornets and Wolves, who last met during the 2008-09 season. Cheyney has won the last four meetings between the teams, including a 67-64 triumph in the last contest on Nov. 15, 2008 in DSU's Memorial Hall. Delaware State defeated Cheyney 85-83 in 1985  for its  only win in the series.
