Norfolk, Va. (Jan. 26) --- For the seventh time in 11 weeks of the 2014-15 season, Delaware State's Kendall Gray (sr.; Dover, Del.) has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week, the league announced today.
Gray earned his latest honor after tallying 29 rebounds and six blocks to help lead the Hornets to wins over South Carolina State and North Carolina A&T. He also scored 18 points in the two games.
The Hornet center has pulled down 118 rebounds in the last seven games (16.9 pg) to rise to No. 1 among all NCAA Division I players in the category. Gray is tops in the nation in total rebounds (12.9 pg) and defensive rebounds (9.8 pg), according to the NCAA's Jan. 25 report. Gray also has two of the top four single-game rebound totals in the country this season. Gray had a career-high 23 rebounds in the Hornets' 60-49 win over Savannah State last Saturday (Jan. 17). It is the third-best single game figure in Div. I this season. Rico Gathers of Baylor has the top single game total (28), while Daniel Ochefu of Villanova had 24 in a game this season. Gray had 22 rebounds vs. Morgan State on Jan. 10, tying for fourth-best in a game this season.
Gray is tops in the MEAC in six statistical categories, ranking in the top 12 among all Div. I players in each. He is second in the nation in total rebounds (232), fifth in double-doubles (12), eighth in blocks per game (3.1) and 12th in total blocks (56).
Also this season, Gray was selected as the national Mid-Major Player-of-the-Week (Lou Henson Award), national HBCU Player-of-the-Week (Press Box to Press Row); and MEAC Player-of-the-Week on Jan. 19.
