THE GAME
The Hornets (7-9; 1-1 MEAC) begin a two-game MEAC homestand against the So. Carolina State Bulldogs. Delaware State is coming off a thrilling 79-76 win over Howard in its last outing on Jan. 12. Amere May hit the go-ahead basket with 11 seconds left and added two free throws with less than a second remaining to seal the win. The Hornets led 36-34 at the break, but trailed by eight early in the second half. There were eight ties and 13 lead changes in the contest. Freshman Todd Hughes came off the bench to lead the Hornets with a career-high 25 points at Howard. Hughes was nine-for-14 from the field, including a career-best four three-pointers (4-5). May added 17 points, while Kendall Gray recorded his fourth straight double-double and 10th of the season with 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Hornets in the game. Gray is tops in the MEAC and among the NCAA Division I leaders in rebounding at 12.0 per game. He also leads the league in blocks and double-double. May is second in the MEAC in scoring at 18.3 points per game    

SC State (5-13; 3-1 MEAC) posted a 52-50 win at North Carolina A&T in its last outing on Jan. 12. to snap a five-game losing streak. Greg Mortimer led a balanced Bulldog attack with 10 points, while teammate Patrick Kirksey had a game-high nine rebounds. SC State held the Aggies to 38% percent shooting from the field (19-for-50) and 15 turnovers. Edward Stephens leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 10.3 points per game. He scored a season-high 26 points vs. Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 8. Darryl Palmer is the team's top rebounder at 7.1 per contest, while Ty Solomon has a team-high 44 assists. Karon Wright has 39 three-point field goals to lead the team.

DSU vs. SC STATE SERIES HISTORY ( SC State leads 53-29 )
The Hornets and Bulldogs have split their last two meetings. Delaware State won the only 2013-14 encounter 61-53 in Memorial Hall. Tyshawn Bell tied his then career-high with 19 points in the
contest. Bell was seven-for-11 from the field, including four-of-seven from three-point territory. Darryl Palmer was high scorer for South Carolina State with 11 points in last year's game. The victory was also the first for Keith Walker as interim head coach of the Hornets. Delaware State has won the last three Memorial Hall meetings between the teams. The Hornets and Bulldogs are scheduled to meet a second time this season on Jan. 31 in Orangeburg, S.C.
