(Washington, D.C.) – In the first of two games on the road this weekend, the Delaware State women's soccer team (0-5) came up short to the American Eagles (2-3), 2-0.
To get things started, American took a 1-0 lead during the 19th minute by way of a Marley Jennings (2) unassisted goal. For the rest of the stanza, the Hornets managed to keep the Eagles scoreless, despite tallying two shots, compared to American's 14.
After intermission, DSU continued to put forth a strong effort to pick its first win of the season, holding the Eagles at bay throughout the majority of the second half. Nevertheless, American extended its lead during the 81st minute, when defender Danielle Krachie found forward Lindsay Muri (2) for the score to put the match out of reach.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Hornets were under heavy assault as American finished the night with 28 shots, including 13 placed on-goal. Spearheading AU's offensive attack was Muri, who finished with a game-high nine attempts, along with six shots placed on-frame.
For DSU, goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky collected a season-high 10 saves, whereas the Hornets' offense failed to find its grooving managing four shots, with one resulting in AU's Charlene Belander's lone save.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will look to bounce back at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday (1 p.m.).
