(Dover, Del.) – Battling hot weather conditions, the Delaware State women's soccer team (0-4) failed to find its groove against the visiting Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (3-1), allowing three first half goals to fall 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
To get things started, FDU's Connie Lewis (3) scored during the 12th minute, after making a move past a defender deep in Hornet territory, resulting in a shot placed over the head of goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky. Midfielder Amanda Goulet was credited with an assist.
About three minutes later, Lewis connected for an assist, with forward Carly Tice (1) putting it past Koslosky at close range. The Knights then took a commanding three-score lead during 30th minute, when Goulet and Lewis (4) hooked up again, this time with Goulet placing a perfect pass to a streaking Lewis deep in DSU territory. With a defender trailing, Lewis was able to get the shot off just out of the reach of Koslosky for the goal.
As for the second half, the Hornets picked up their intensity, but it was not enough as they dropped their fourth straight to begin the 2014 campaign.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Knights tallied 18 shots, with Lewis totaling a game-high five attempts. DSU, meanwhile, managed just two attempts, whereas Koslosky totaled three saves.
Next up, Delaware State will hit the road for back-to-back games, beginning with American this Friday (4 p.m.), followed by Mount St. Mary's on Sunday (1 p.m.).
