The Hornets Historic Season Comes to an End

DOVER, DE -- The Delaware State University women's soccer team closed out the 2025 season with a 6–10–3 overall record and a 4–6–1 mark in conference play, marking the program's most successful campaign in over a decade.

How it Happened v. Central Conneticut State University

Azjah Tocher led Delaware St. with six saves. The Hornets recorded nine shots in the loss, four of them on goal. Delaware St. faced 16 Central Conn. St. shots, 11 of them on goal.

2025 Season Milestone: The Hornets captured their first-ever conference win, earned four victories in conference play, and secured a top-half finish in the NEC standings.

Season Highlights
The 2025 season will be remembered as a defining chapter in Delaware State women's soccer history. Led by Head Coach Natasha Ademakinwa, the Hornets achieved a series of historic milestones that signaled a true turnaround for the program.

  • The Hornets recorded their first-ever conference win, defeating Saint Francis 2:1, and went on to earn four conference victories in total, finishing 4–6–1 in NEC play.
  • The Hornets ended a 35-match winless streak with a season-opening win over Alabama A&M and achieved their first multi-win season since 2014 (and best record in over a decade).
  • The team's conference winning percentage placed them in strong contention for a top-half finish but just short of an NEC Tournament berth, with only the top four teams qualifying based on final league standings.
  • Before 2025, DSU had not recorded six or more wins since 2014 and had gone several seasons without a single conference victory.
  • From 2015–2023, the program endured multiple winless seasons and had not won a single conference match.
  • The 2025 campaign represents a defining shift — from perennial last place to a credible, competitive team in the NEC.
  • With the foundation now firmly set, Delaware State women's soccer enters 2026 with renewed optimism and belief, aiming to build on its best season in more than a decade.

Program Progress
The Hornets' progress under Coach Ademakinwa represents one of the most significant turnarounds in NCAA Division I women's soccer this year.
The team demonstrated renewed competitiveness, defensive organization, and belief, transforming from a perennial underdog into a credible conference contender.
Culture Change & Growth:

  • Coach Ademakinwa, now in her second year at the helm, has infused the program with a clear identity built on discipline, culture, and continuous improvement.
  • Under second-year head coach Natasha Ademakinwa, the team showed visible improvement in structure, belief, and competitiveness, a true rebuilding success for a program historically ranked at the bottom of Division I women's soccer.
