GUNTER NAMED TO SPORTS NETWORK FCS PRE-SEASON ALL-AMERICA SECOND TEAM

Dover, Del. (July 1, 2014) --- Delaware State University defensive lineman Rodney Gunter (sr.; Lake Hamilton, Fla.) has been named to the 2014 Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason All-America Second Team, announced today.

Gunter, a 2013 All-MEAC First Team selection, had 43 total tackles, including 10.5 behind the line-of-scrimmage; and was among the MEAC leaders with 4.5 sacks last season.

A three-year starter, Gunter has 131 tackles, including 72 solo stops, 24 tackles-for-loss and 11 sacks in his Hornet career.

He tied his career-high with 10 tackles (eight solo) vs. Morgan State in the Hornets 2013 season finale.

Gunter is one of seven MEAC players named to the Sports Network Preseason All-America first, second or third teams. Norfolk State linebacker Lynden Trail (sr.) and North Carolina Central kick returner Adrian Wilkins (jr.) are the only MEAC players on the first team.

The Sports Network is recognized as the media authority on FCS football.

In addition to the pre and post-season All-America teams, the network provides preseason, weekly and post-season polls; and end-of-the-year honors, including the Eddie Robison Award for top FCS coach,  Walter Payton Award for best offensive player, Buck Buchanon Award for top defensive player and Jerry Rice Award for freshman-of-the-year.
