» Florida A&M Rattlers (13-12, 7-5 MEAC)

Coming off an 83-80 win at home over Coppin State on Saturday, the Rattlers have won five out of their last six games, including their last two.  Collectively, FAMU sits second (69.2 ppg) in the MEAC in scoring, led by the conference's leading scorer (24.6 ppg) and Co-Preseason Player of the Year, guard Jasmine Grice.  Grice also leads FAMU in rebounds (161) and steals (91), while guard Taneka Rubin (12.4 ppg) sits second on the team in scoring.

» Delaware State's first win since beating Morgan State on Feb. 1.

» The Hornets' second consecutive win at FAMU.

Last Time Out…

The Lady Hornets fell 80-51 to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats this past Saturday on the road.  At game's end, the Wildcats shot 46 percent (27-of-59) from the field and went 11-of-26 (.423) from long distance, with guard Kendra Cooper draining a game-high four to finish with 16 points. Rebounding wise, B-CU totaled 41 to DSU's 30.  Five Wildcats also scored in double figures, led by guard Taylor Houston's game-high 22 points (7-of-10).  Houston also pulled down eight rebounds and hit all five free throw attempts, whereas guard Chastity Rene-Taylor finished with 12 points (4-of-10) and a game-high nine assists.    The Lady Hornets, meanwhile, had three players score in double figures with Bankston finishing with 12 points (4-of-14), snapping a five-game streak of scoring 20 points or more.  As a unit, Delaware State was held to just 29 percent (15-of-51) shooting.

MEAC Struggles

Currently, Delaware State sits 12th in the MEAC standings with its 1-10 mark.  In these 11 games, the Lady Hornets are being outscored 70-60 and shooting 37 percent from the field, including 25 percent from long distance. On the glass, teams are out-rebounding DSU, 476-404, whereas the Hornets have struggled to take care of the ball with 187 turnovers, compared to 132 assists.

Road Woes

In 13 road games this season, DSU is 2-11 and being outscored, 78-61.  Offensively, the Lady Hornets are shooting 38 percent from field, including 23 percent from beyond the arc, while also dishing out 154 assists, compared to 220 by their oppositions.  Additionally, opposing squads are shooting 44 percent, along with owning the rebounding advantage (559-464).  Dating back to last season, the Lady Hornets have dropped 15 out of their last 17 road games.

Hawkins Done for the Season

The Hornets took another hit on the injury front with leading scorer (20.7 ppg) and rebounder Tierra Hawkins (10.2 rpg) officially ruled out for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.  Hawkins wraps up her junior campaign as one of eight players in the country averaging 20+ points and 10+ rebounds per game.  In DSU's 86-73 win at home over Wilmington (Nov. 20), she tallied 30 points to eclipse 1,000 career points to become the 15th player in Hornets history to reach this milestone.  Also, Hawkins was named MEAC Player of the Week twice this season (Nov. 25 and Jan. 6).

Moving Up the Career List

With her performance at Bethune-Cookman, senior Deanna Harmon now needs three assists to be second on DSU's all-time assists list.  Currently, her career total stands at 262.

At This Point Last Season…

The Lady Hornets were 8-15 overall and 5-5 in MEAC play, coming off a 73-68 loss at home against Coppin State.

Coming Up Next…
