THE GAME
Delaware State (4-6) visits St. Francis Brooklyn of the Northeast Conference in the second of four consecutive road games for the Hornets. DSU has dropped its last two games, including an 83-44 drubbing at the hands of Rhode Island in its most recent outing last Saturday (Dec. 13). The Rams pressured the Hornets into season lows in points and shooting percentage in the contest. Delaware State was 16-for-63 from the floor (25.4%), including four-of-19 from three-point territory (2.1%) in the contest. Since nailing eight threes at Wake Forest on Nov. 28, the Hornets have hit just 12-of-73 from beyond the arc in the last four games (16.4%). Delaware State had one field goal in the last seven minutes of the first half, and trailed 31-18 at the break. Rhode Island outscored the Hornets 12-4 to start the second half, and opened up a 43-22 lead on a basket with 15:31 left to play. Kendal Williams was the only Delaware State player in double figures with a season-high 10 points. He had two of the Hornets' four three-point field goals. Kendall Gray led DSU with a game-high nine rebounds, while Amere May had seven points and a team-high four assists. Freshman Todd Hughes started his first game for Delaware State, tallying two points, three rebounds and a team-high three blocks. Mrdjan Gasevic came off the bench to grab a career-high seven rebounds for the Hornets.
After dropping its first five games, St. Francis (3-6) has won three of its last four, including a 90-72 victory over Mount St. Vincent in the most recent outing on Dec. 13. Brent Jones led the Terriers with a game-high 25 points. Jones was nine-for-16 from the field, including three three-point field goals (3-8). Jalen Cannon recorded a double-double for the Terriers, tallying 18 points (8-9 FGs) and 12 rebounds. Glenn Sanabria came off the bench to add 15 points (4-6 FGs; 2-3 3pt. FGs) for the Terriers in the contest. Jones leads St Francis in scoring at 14.0 points per-game. He also has a team-high 38 assists. Cannon averages 13.6 points and tops the team in rebounding at 8.9 per game.
DSU vs. ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN/SERIES HISTORY (Series tied 2-2)
The Hornets and Terriers are meeting for the second straight year, and fifth time overall. St. Francis won last year's meeting 60-57 on Dec. 30, 2013 in Dover, Del. Kendall Gray had 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, while Kendal Williams added 13 points to lead the Hornets. Cannon tied for game high scoring honors with 17 for the Terriers in last year's meeting. St. Francis has won the last two games in the series, including a 73-68 victory in 1995 at DSU. Dela ware State won the first two meetings, 85-80 in 1993; and 105-103 in overtime in 1994.
