THE GAME
Delaware State plays its third of sixth straight road games against the impressive Iona Gaels in the Roundball Showcase. The Hornets (2-2) are coming off a 99-71 loss to Arkansas last Friday. DSU trailed by just nine near the midway point of the second half, but wore down in the stretch in the fast paced contest. Tyshawn Bell led the Hornets (2-2) with 19 points, highlighted by a career-high five three-point field goals (5-7). Bell is 14-for-23 from three-point range this season (.609). He has hit nine of his last 12 shots from beyond the arc. Kendall Gray set a new school record for career blocks during the contest. Gray blocked five shots to give him 227 in his career. He entered the game tied with Marques Oliver (2009-13) for the previous record of 222. It was the 18th time that Gray has blocked at least five shots in a game at DSU. He has nine blocks in the last two games, and 17 this season (4.3 pg). DeAndre Haywood added 15 points for the Hornets. Haywood leads the MEAC in scoring at 18.5 points per game. Bell is the league's top three-point shooter with 14 threes and a .609 percentage, while Gray is the top shot blocker in the conference (17)
 
Iona (3-1) is coming off back-to-back road wins at Wake Forest (85-81) and North Texas (78-58). North Texas defeated Delaware State 62-55 last Wednesday, while Hornets will take on Wake Forest this Friday (Nov. 28). Junior guard A.J. English, a Wilmington, Del., native and son of former Delaware high school and NBA standout A.J. English, Sr., is averaging a team-high 25 points per game for the Gaels. English is coming off a career-high 37 point performance at North Texas in Iona's last outing. He was 11-for-21 from the field, including five-of-11 from three-point territory, in the N. Texas.  In the win at Wake Forest, English tallied 27 points, highlighted by six three-point field goals (6-12). Iona also has a 78-73 win over Cleveland State, while its lone loss was at Wofford (73-86) this season.

This will be the first meeting between the Hornets and Gaels. Delaware State is 8-8 all-time against current members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC): 1-1 vs. Quinnipiac; 2-3 vs.
