HORNETS CRUISE PAST BAPTIST BIBLE TO IMPROVE TO 2-0

Dover, Del. (Nov. 17, 2014) --- Four players scored in double figures and Kendall Gray recorded his 13th career double-double to lead Delaware State to a 104-63 win over Baptist Bible in the Hornets' 2014-15 home opener in Memorial Hall this evening.

DeAndre Haywood led DSU in scoring for the second straight game, tallying 18 points. Larry Haley came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points. Haley was six-for-10 from the field, including three-of-six from three-point territory; and two-for-two at the free throw line.

Gray had 15 points (6-9 FGs) and 12 rebounds to record the Hornets' first double-double of the season. He also blocked two shots to give him 218 for this career, four shy of the school-record 222 by Marques Oliver (2009-13).

Todd Hughes tallied 15 points on seven-of-nine shooting from the field in his first collegiate game. He was also second on the team with seven rebounds.

Charles Burley and Kendal Williams led the Hornets with five assists each.

Delaware State reached the 100-point mark for the first time since a 107-48 win over Cairn on November 9, 2013 on a jumper by Haley with 1:16 left to play.

The Hornets' 41-point margin of victory was also its biggest since that contest.

The score was 4-4 before Delaware State took control of the game. The Hornets scored 30 of the next 35 points, and opened up a 34-9 lead on a three-pointer by Williams with 5:43 left in the first half.

Seven different Hornets scored during the run. Haywood and Williams tallied six points each, Kavon Waller had five; and Gray threw down dunks on back-to-back possessions during the spurt.

All 13 players who appeared in the game scored for the Hornets; and 12 grabbed at least one rebound.

DSU opened up its biggest first half lead, 43-16, on baseline jumper by Jason Owens with 3:43 to go before intermission.

The Hornets led 53-28 at the break.

Haywood capped off a 13-5 run with a three-point play to give DSU an 80-42 lead with 10:01 left to play.

The Hornets led by 43 points on two occasions in the second half.

Delaware State was 39-for-75 from the field (52%), including 10-of-27 from beyond the arc (37%). The Hornets were 16-for-21 at the free throw line (76.2%).

Marqwon Wynn led three Baptist Bible players in double figures with a game-high 19 points. Wynn was nine-for-15 from the field.

Abe Valentine added 17 points and Dan Decker 14 for the Defenders.

Delaware State won the rebound battle 52-33.

The Hornets will look for their first 3-0 start since the 2012-13 season when they visit North Texas for the first time on Wed. (Nov. 19). Game time is 8:30 p.m. in Denton, Tex.

DSU will also travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks this Friday.
