The Hornets took the lead for good 69-67 on two free throws by Tyshawn Bell with 3:02 left to play. Bell added 19 points in the contest, highlighted by four three-point field goals (4-7). Kendall Gray contributed 17 points, a game-high nine rebounds and six blocks to the win. Haywood also had four assists and four steals in the contest, while Charles Burley led all players with five assists for DSU. The Hornets got off to a fast start in the game, scoring the first five points on a tip-in by Gray and a Bell three-pointer. DSU opened up the biggest lead of the game, 17-7, on a three-ball by newcomer Aric Dickerson (eight points; 2-3 three-point FGs) with 14:34 left in the first half. Penn was ahead 35-34 at intermission and led by as many as eight in the second half before the Hornets fought back.

Baptist Bible is trying to rebound from an 85-60 loss to DeSales University in its season opener last Saturday. Marqwon Wynn came off the bench to lead four Defenders in double figures with 13 points. Baptist Bible trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half, and pulled to within 44-31 at the break. The Defenders were outscored 41-29 in the final 20 minutes. Baptist Bible hit just 17-of-57 shots from the field (29.8%) and were outrebounded 47-31 in the contest.
