LADY HORNETS RETURN HOME TO FACE CROSSTOWN FOE WESLEY MONDAY EVENING

The Game

The Delaware State women's basketball team (4-13, 0-6 MEAC) will to look to snap a four-game losing skid Monday evening (5:30 p.m.) against the Wesley Wolverines (4-12, 1-7 CAC), in what will be the Lady Hornets' first home game since Jan. 13.

The Opponent

» Wesley Wolverines (4-12, 1-7 CAC)

For the Wolverines, Monday's game will wrap up a four-game road swing.  During this stretch, they are 1-2 with its most recent loss occurring Saturday at Southern Virginia.

Offensively, Wesley has three players scoring in double figures, led by guard Brionna Johnson (14.7 ppg), who is also the team's leading rebounder (10.8 rpg). Guards Roniece Williams and Monique Miller, meanwhile, both average 10.2 points per contest.

» The Head Coach: James Wearden is in his eighth season with the Lady Wolverines.  Throughout his tenure, he holds 78-111 overall record, along with a 45-63 mark in conference action.  

» The Series: Delaware State is 3-0 all-time against the Wolverines with the Hornets winning each contest by 30 points or more. Last season, DSU pulled out a 76-34 victory at home. 

A Win Would Mean…

» The Lady Hornets' fourth victory at home, their first since Jan. 7.

» DSU would avoid its second five-game losing streak of the season.

» Delaware State's first win since beating NJIT on Jan. 75-72.

Last Time Out…

The Lady Hornets fell 50-47 on the road to MEAC foe North Carolina A&T last Monday, 50-47.  Despite trailing 23-14 at the break, the Aggies scored 36 points in the second half on 47 percent (14-of-30).  For the game, DSU shot 31 percent (16-of-51) from the floor with guard Raven Bankston leading the way with a team-high 20 points (7-of-22). Forward Tierra Hawkins, despite 11 points on a rough 5-for-18 (.278) shooting night, pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Guard/forward Deanna Harmon also finished the night in double figures with 10 points (2-of-4), whereas guard Jade Washington recorded five assists. 

Rough Stretch

After starting 3-3, DSU has dropped 10 out of its last 11 games.  During this stretch, the Lady Hornets have been outscored, 74-54, while shooting 34 percent from the floor and 19 percent from beyond the arc.  Defensively, teams are shooting 44 percent from the field, including 36 percent from long distance. Delaware State has also struggled to take care of the ball by totaling 206 turnovers, compared to 104 assists.

Can't Shake the Injury Bug

Throughout the season, the Lady Hornets have been hit hard on the injury front. Before playing a game, center Janay Carter and guard Aaliyah Davis both suffered season-ending knee injuries, whereas guard Raine Bankston also went down with a season-ending knee injury after starting five games.  

Later in the year, leading scorer and rebounder Tierra Hawkins missed two games after suffering a shoulder injury in the first half against Coppin State, whereas guard Diamond Williams (ankle) missed three games before returning to action against NCCU (Jan. 18).            

Milestone Watch

Junior Tierra Hawkins needs two blocks (52) to place 10th all-time on DSU's blocks list and seven rebounds (593) to tally 600 for her career.  Currently, she sits eighth all-time on the school's scoring list with 1,280 points.

 At This Point Last Season…

The Lady Hornets were 6-11 and 3-1 in MEAC play, coming off a 62-57 overtime victory at Bethune-Cookman.

 Coming Up Next…

Delaware State will head to Baltimore, Md. to face the Morgan State Bears this Saturday (2 p.m.).
