BANKSTON NAMED MEAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK FOR THE FOURTH TIME OF 2013-14

(Dover, Del.) – For the fourth time this season, guard Raven Bankston was named MEAC Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon, despite Delaware State (4-10, 0-3 MEAC) going 1-1 at home last week against NJIT and Hampton.

In DSU's 75-72 overtime victory against NJIT, Bankston poured in a game-high26 points (8-of-17) with 19 coming in the second half.  She also went a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, to go along two assists, two rebounds and two steals.  From the free throw line, the Detroit, Mich. native, set career-highs in free throws made (8) and attempted (12).

Against Hampton, despite the Lady Hornets falling 79-39, Bankston scored a team-high 17 points (6-of-24) and matched a career-high rebounds (7) while battling foul trouble throughout the afternoon.

For the week, Bankston averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists, while for the season, she sits fourth in the MEAC in scoring (18.8 ppg) and leads DSU in three-pointers made (13).

Coming up, Delaware State will face Norfolk State tonight (5:30 p.m.) at home.
