Dover, Del. (Apr. 17, 2013) --- The Delaware State University women's tennis team will enter the 2013 MEAC Tournament on high note. The Hornets defeated Wagner 5-2 yesterday for its second straight win against a non-conference opponent. DSU won its previous match 6-0 against Rider on Apr. 7.
In the Wagner contest, Marina Sicic had the most dominating performance for the Hornets, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No.5 singles. Sicic improved to 13-2 this spring.
Ksenia Kozlova (No. 3) and Vanja Andonova (No. 4) each posted 6-1, 6-0 victories vs. Wagner. Kozlova is now 15-3 in singles play this season, including 10-2 at No. 3. Andonova is 13-5 this season.
DSU's Kristina Aleksic was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 2, while teammate Maja Banas outlasted her opponent 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 match.
Delaware State has a 15-5 overall record this spring. The team record for spring wins is 16 during the 2012 season.
The Hornets, seeded third in the MEAC North, will face No. 3 South seed North Carolina Central in the opening round of the 2013 MEAC Tournament this Friday in Raleigh, N.C.
