Norfolk, Va. (Nov. 30, 2013) --- Delaware State University wide receiver Milton Williams III (jr.) and defensive lineman Rodney Gunter (Jr.) were named to the 2013 All Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference First Team, in voting by league head coaches and sports information directors announced this weekend.
Hornet quarterback Cory Murphy was selected to the All-MEAC Second Team, while DSU wide receiver Malik Golson (r-fr.), linebacker Ernest Adjei (sr.) and defensive back Terrick Colston (so.) were third team picks.
Williams was tops in the MEAC in receptions (5.3 pg) and receiving yards (80.7 pg) this season. He had league highs of 58 catches for 888 yards, and was tied for second in the conference with five receiving touchdowns. The 58 receptions rank sixth-best for a season in DSU history. Williams had five 100-yard receiving games in 2013, including a career-best 179 vs. Morgan State in the season finale. He set a career-high with 10 receptions in the opener against Delaware.
Williams is the fourth Delaware State receiver selected to the All-MEAC First Team since 2010.
Gunter was tops on the Hornets and 16th in the league with 4.5 sacks (0.33 pg) this season. He was also second on the team and tied for 15th in the MEAC with 10.5 tackles for loss (0.95 pg). Gunter, a pre-season All-MEAC First Team pick, was ninth on the Hornets with 43 total tackles in 2013.

Murphy was the 2013 MEAC leader in passing at 209.7 yards per game. He completed 205-of-369 passes (55.6%) for 2,307 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 2013 completion total ranks third and passing yardage is fourth-best for a season in team history. Murphy was also second in the MEAC in total offense (218.2 ypg) and seventh in passing efficiency (112.1) during the 2013 season.
Golson was tops among all MEAC freshmen in receptions (55), receiving yards (517) and touchdown catches (4) this season. He ranked second only to teammate Williams in receptions (5.0 pg) and was fourth in the league in receiving yards (47.0 pg).
Colston, a preseason All-MEAC First Team selection, was tops on the Hornets and 18th in the MEAC at 7.5 tackles per game (83 total) during the 2013 season. He was also tied for the conference lead with four fumble recoveries.
Adjei, also a preseason All-MEAC First Team pick, was second on the Hornets and 22nd in the MEAC in tackles at 7.2 per game. He was also credited with 11 tackles-for-loss, three pass break-ups and three pass deflections this season.
Delaware State was 5-6 overall and tied for third in the MEAC with a 5-3 league record in 2013. The Hornets were picked to finish eighth in the preseason MEAC poll.
Voters selected Howard University quarterback Greg McGhee as the 2013 MEAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year; while South Carolina State linebacker Joe Thomas was the top defensive player.
North Carolina A&T running back Tarik Cohen was selected as the 2013 MEAC Rookie-of- the-Year, while top offensive lineman honors were awarded to Tristen Bellamy of South Carolina State.
Brian Jenkins of Bethune-Cookman was named MEAC Coach-of-the-Year for the third time. Jenkins led the Wildcats to a 10-2 overall and a share of the conference championship with a 7-1 mark in league play. BCU earned the MEAC's automatic bid to the MEAC playoffs by virtue of its win over fellow co-champ South Carolina State.
