COLONIALS TOO MUCH FOR HORNETS

Washington, D.C. (Nov. 19, 2013) --- The Delaware State University men's basketball team, coming off back-to-back games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, met its toughest match of the young season, falling to George Washington 94-50 at the Charles E. Smith Center this evening.

The Atlantic 10 Conference Colonials won their fourth straight to start the season, while the Hornets dropped their third in a row to fall to 1-4.        

George Washington jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first 5:17 of the game and never looked back.

The Colonials hit 21 of 35 first half shots (60%) en route to a 54-19 lead at the break.

Delaware State was held to 28% shooting in the first half (seven-for-25).

George Washington held its biggest lead, 92-43, with 2:31 left to play.

Kendall Gray was a bright spot for the Hornets, topping the team with a season-high 15 points (5-8 FGs). He also led all players with six rebounds and five blocks. Gray has 139 blocks in 50 games with the Hornets.

Tyshawn Bell added 11 points for DSU.

Isaiah Armwood led six George Washington players in double figures with 17 points. Nick Griffin added 14 points on five-for-six shooting from the field, including four-of-four from three-point territory for the Colonials.

GW's Maurice Creek, a transfer from Indiana, tallied 11 points on four-of-five shooting from the field (3-3 on 3-pointers).

The Colonials were 35-for-68 from the field (60.3%), including 10-of-17 from beyond the arc (58.8%).

The Hornets hit 17 of their 51 shots (33.3%). DSU was four-for-15 on three-point attempts (26.7%).

Delaware State returns to action next Monday (Nov. 25) at home against the University of Delaware. Game time is 7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The Hornets won last year's meeting between the state's two Division I men's basketball programs 73-67 in overtime at UD's Bob Carpenter Center.
