(Dover, Del.) – Playing in its final home match of the season, the Delaware State women's soccer (1-13) came up short to the Howard Bison (6-6-1), 1-0, Tuesday evening behind a second half goal off the foot of forward Jaelin Etierre White (1) during the 74th minute.
In the first period, the Hornets controlled the tempo by tallying four shots, compared to HU's lone attempt. DSU's best opportunity to score occurred during the fifth minute when forward Chelsea Boursiquot fired a shot while deep in HU territory after fending off a couple of Bison defenders. Unfortunately for the Hornets, her attempted sailed high to keep the match scoreless.
At intermission, goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky (1-13) record one stop, while her counterpart, Kyra Dickinson (6-6-1), came away with two saves.
Coming out of the locker room, the former Great West Conference foes revved up the intensity as the match remained scoreless with under 20 minutes to play.
In the case of HU, it was able to breakthrough when midfielder Dytria Ruddy (1) made a pass within Hornet territory to White about 20 yards in front of the net. With no defender unable to contest the shot, White's attempt sailed out of Koslosky's reach for the goal.
Despite facing 1-0 deficit, the Hornets continued their tough play by applying constant pressure to HU's defense. Boursiquot, who suffered an apparent leg injury earlier in the period, had two great looks at the net, but could not capitalize.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Hornets finished with a season-high 12 shots, including Boursiquot's game-high six. The Bison, on the other hand, recorded 11 attempts.
In the net, meanwhile, both keepers tallied four saves.
Coming up, the Red & Columbia Blue will take on Towson this Saturday at 2 p.m.
