THE GAME
Delaware State takes on North Carolina A&T State University in a key MEAC contest. The Hornets are 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC after a 14-7 win over Norfolk State last week. DSU is one of three teams with one loss in league games. South Carolina State (3-0) and Bethune-Cookman (2-0) have yet to lose in the conference.
In last week's victory over Norfolk State, the Hornets scored the game-winning touchdown on a one-yard keeper by quarterback Cory Murphy with 5:25 left to play. The Spartans drove to the DSU 30 on their final possession, but Hornet safety Davon Moore intercepted a pass by Norfolk State quarterback Rico Flores at the nine-yard line to seal the win.
The Hornet defense played a key role in the win. DSU held Norfolk State to 184 total yards, the low for a Delaware State opponent this season. The Spartans netted just 19 yards rushing in the contest.
After a 3-0 start, North Carolina A&T has dropped its last two games to fall to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the MEAC. The Aggies opened the season with a 24-21 road win over perennial FCS power Appalachian State.
NCA&T is coming off a 31-26 MEAC loss to Hampton last week. The Aggies won the total yardage battle, 419-246, but were plagued by three interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown.
NCA&T running back Tarik Cohen was named MEAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week after rushing for 180 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
THE SERIES
This will be the 42nd on-the-field meeting between the Hornets and Aggies. DSU won last year's meeting 24-0 in Dover, Del., to open up a 21-20-1 series lead. It was DSU's first shutout since the 2007 season. The last time the teams met at NCA&T, the Aggies posted a 42-24 win in 2011. The Hornets have won seven of the last eight on-the-field meetings between the teams. The teams did not meet in 2009, although NCA&T was awarded a victory due to a DSU forfeit.
