Richmond, KY (Nov. 28, 2012) --- Glenn Cosey led four Eastern Kentucky players with 21 points in the Colonels' 84-51 win over Delaware State at McBrayer Arena this evening.
Eastern Kentucky improved to 6-0 on the season, while the Hornets dropped their fifth straight game to fall to 3-5.
Freshman Miles Bowman recorded his first career double-double for DSU, scoring a team-high 15 points and leading all players with 13 rebounds.
Tahj Tate added 11 points for the Hornets. DSU's Kendall Gray had a game-high five blocks to give him 28 for the season. Gray has 14 blocks in his last three games. He was sixth among NCAA Division players in blocks at 3.8 per game entering the contest.
Eastern Kentucky took control of the game midway through the first half. Cosey, who scored 11 of EKU's first 13 points, capped off a 13-2 run with a three-pointer to give the Colonels a 28-11 lead with 8:19 left in the first half. EKU opened up its biggest first half lead, 41-19, when Cosey converted a three-point play with 3:43 to go before intermission.
The Colonels led 43-23 at the break.
Delaware State was a respectable 11-for-24 from the field (45.8%), but was plagued by 10 turnovers in the first half. Eastern Kentucky shot 51.5% from the field (17-for-33) and held a 17-11 rebound advantage in the first 20 minutes.
The Colonels opened up their biggest lead of the game, 74-39, on a tip-in by Eric Stutz with 5:40 left to play.
Bowman, who started the game in place of injured forward Marques Oliver, was four-for-eight (one three-pointer) from the field and six-of-seven at the free throw line. Five of his 13 rebounds were on the offensive end. His previous high was 10 points in two games this season.
Amere May (4-8 FG) added nine points for DSU.
Delaware State was 20-for-46 from the field (43.5%), but just three-of-14 from three-point territory (21.4%), in the contest. The Hornets were forced into 20 turnovers, their second highest total of the season.
Eastern Kentucky hit 34 of its 64 shots from the field (53.1%), including 11-of-26 from beyond the arc (42.3%). The Colonels had 26 assists on their 34 field goals.
EKU committed eight turnovers and held a 32-26 edge in rebounds.
Delaware State will begin 2012-13 MEAC play this Saturday (Dec. 1) against Maryland-Eastern Shore. Game time is 3:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
