SMYRNA, Del. - In her first meet
of the season, senior
Dashera Richardson
(Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Delaware State University women's cross country
team to their first victory with 25 points this Saturday at the Hornet
Invitational, held at the DSU Outreach and Research Facility. In total, the Hornet women had six of the top
10 finishers.
Richardson
finished second overall with a time of 18:40.36 to earn two points for the
Hornets. Junior Ketsia Dornevil (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed in third place with a
time of 19:39.10 while fellow junior T'Nay
Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) ran a 20:04.24, good for fifth. Williams' time was more than a minute faster
than her previous races this season.
Rounding
out the top ten were graduate students Alisha
Jones (Newark, Del.) and Tracey Fan
Fan (South Orange, N.J.) and freshman Brianna
Sims (New Haven, Conn.). Jones
placed eighth with a time of 20:58.78, Fan Fan was ninth in 21:03.76 and Sims
finished 10th in 21:26.46. All
three recorded season-best times.
Team
finishers included Morgan State in second place with 43 points, UMES in third
with 78 points and UDC fourth with 89 points.
Morgan State's Ishakeema Swain won the race with a time of 18:37.98.
In
the men's 8k race, the Hornets finished fourth with 80 points while UDC won the
race with 52 points. Morgan State was
also second in the men's race with 55 points and UMES was third with 68
points. Coppin State was fifth with 84
points. UDC's Hillary Mugun placed first
with a time of 26:26.30.
Freshman
Terrell Oliver (Camden, Del.) was
the lone DSU men's top 10 finisher with a time of 29:12.17, good for ninth
place. Senior Kelli Thibou (Greenbelt, Md.) was 12th in 30:50.26 while
freshman Joshua
Johnson was 16th in 32:21.62. Senior Stephen
Bowe placed 18th in 32:57.17 and graduate Kevaughn Laviea (Dover, Del.) ran a 34:58.81, good for 26th
place. Bryan Pointer finished the race for the Hornets in 28th
place with a time of 35:39.49.
The Delaware State men's and women's cross country teams wrap up
their regular season this Friday with a 4 p.m. race at the DSU Outreach and
Research Facility in Smyrna, Del.
