Raleigh, N.C. (Jan. 4, 2012) ----     Scott Wood and C.J. Leslie led North Carolina State with 14 points each in the Wolfpack 78-44 victory over Delaware State at the RBC Center this evening.

The Hornets dropped their sixth straight game to fall to 4-9, while N.C. State won its fifth in a row to improve to 11-4.

Richard Howell added 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Wolfpack.

Tahj Tate, returning from a four-game team-imposed suspension, came off the bench to lead Delaware State with 14 points. Marques Oliver added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Casey Walker tallied 10 points for the Hornets.

Delaware State played its second straight game with starting point guard Jay Threatt, who is nursing various bumps and bruises.

North Carolina State led 9-2 before a DSU rally. Tate capped off a 10-4 Delaware State run with a lay-up off a Wolfpack turnover to pull the Hornets to with 13-12 with 10:39 left in the first half. Casey Walker scored six points on two three-pointers during the spurt.

The Wolfpack 15-14 before taking control of the game. NC State outscored the Hornets 27-4 during the rest of the half to hold a 42-18 advantage at the break.

North Carolina State opened the second half with a 17-10 run to open up a 30-point lead.  Howell ended the spurt with a dunk to give the Wolfpack a 59-28 lead with 11:06 left to play.

DSU could get no closer than 28 points the rest of the way.

The Hornets return to MEAC action for their next game. DSU will host Maryland-Eastern Shore on Jan. 14 in Memorial Hall. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
