THE GAME
Delaware State begins a two-game road trip with a visit to North Carolina Central for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest. The Hornets (5-11; 2-3 MEAC) snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 65-51 win over Florida A&M in their last outing. Marques Oliver had 10 points, 12 rebounds and a school record-tying eight blocks to lead DSU. He also contributed four steals and an assist in the contest. Tahj Tate had a game-high 19 points (8-16 FGs), while Jay Threatt tallied 11 points, a season-high nine assists and three steals. North Carolina Central is trying to snap a two-game losing streak. The eagles are coming off a 71-64 loss to Morgan State on Sunday. Ray Willis and Dominique Sutton top the NCCU score sheet with 16 points each.
DSU VS. NC CENTRAL SERIES HISTORY (NCCU leads 16-12)
The Hornets and Eagles are meeting for the second straight year. The teams met last season for the first time since the 1978-79 campaign, the final year of NCCU's previous stint in the MEAC. Delaware State won last year's contest 68-59 in Durham, N.C. The Hornets led 36-21 at the half and maintained at least a seven point lead throughout the final 20 minutes. Desi Washington led three Delaware State players in double figures with a game-high 22 points. Casey Walker added 16 points and Marques Oliver 13 for the Hornets. Landon Clement was high man for NCCU with 18 points, while C.J. Wilkerson added 13 and Marvin Fitzgerald 10 for the Eagles. This is the only scheduled meting between the teams this season.
