Dover, Del. (Mar. 18, 2011) --- Delaware State racked out 16 hits, while Casey Beighly and Stephanie Sarris combined on a no-hitter in a 14-0 win over North Carolina Central in the Hornets' 2011 home opener this afternoon.

DSU won its second game in a row to improve to 8-8, while the Eagles fell to 4-17.

Beighly (3-4) earned the win after tossing three no-hit innings. Sarris did not allow a hit in two innings of relief. Each struck out one without allowing a walk.

Beighly also had two hits and three runs batted in, while Andrea Waters and Kelsey Lewis drove in two runs each.

Ten players hit safely in the contest for the Hornets.

Delaware State opened the scoring with eight runs in the second inning. Waters singled in the first two runs, while Chelsea Stern, Rachel Carroll and Beighly also had run scoring hits in the inning.

Beighly had a two-run single and Lewis knocked in a run in DSU's four-run third inning.         

The Hornets closed out the scoring with two runs in the fourth.

The game was halted after No. Carolina Central batted in the top of the fifth inning due to the eight run rule.

Delaware State will return to action tomorrow against UMES (12:00 p.m.) and Mount St. Mary's (4:00 p.m.) in the Capital City Classic at the DSU softball complex.
