Jacksonville, Fla. (Mar. 13, 2011) --- Ashlyn Campbell tossed a two-hit complete game and Jordan Reid drove in three runs to lead Delaware State to an 11-1 win over Mount St. Mary's at the North Florida Osprey Classic today. The game was ended after Mount St. Mary's batted in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule. DSU improved to 7-8 on the season.
Campbell (3-2) allowed two hits and one run, while striking out nine in five innings, to earn the win. Reid was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in to lead Delaware State's 13-hit attack. Tawny Reeger had two hits and two RBI, while Campbell and Janelle Lukens also had two hits for the Hornets.
Delaware State opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. Reeger had a two-run double and Rachel Carroll doubled in the third run.
The Hornets added two runs in the second to open up a 5-0 lead. Reid drove in the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
After Mount St. Mary's scored a run in the bottom of the second, DSU responded with four runs in the third to stretch its lead to 9-1.
Reid had a two-run triple, while Lukens and Chelsea Stern also had run-scoring hits in the third.
The Hornets closed out the scoring with two runs in the fifth. Ashley Davis singled in the first run and Casey Beighly drove in a run on a groundout in the inning.
Delaware State will return to action on Friday (Mar. 18) in the 2011 home opener against North Carolina Central. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at the DSU softball complex.
