Jacksonville, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2011) --- Delaware State collected 12 hits, but was hurt by four errors in a 10-6 loss to North Florida at the UNF Osprey tournament this afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Hornets fell to Kansas 8-0 in a tournament contest.
In the North Florida loss, Janelle Lukens was 3-for-3, while Jordan Reid, Chelsea Stern and Tawny Reeger collected two hits each for the Hornets.
UNF led 4-0 before Delaware State put three runs on the board in the third inning. Casey Beighly had a run-scoring double, while Reeger and Stephanie Martello drove in runs on sacrifice flies in the inning.
After North Florida scored five runs in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead, Delaware State answered with three more runs in the bottom of the inning. Reeger drove in her second run of the game on a single in the fourth. .
In the Kansas contest, Allie Clark tossed a one-hit shutout for the Jayhawks. The game was halted in the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule. KU improved to 20-3 on the season.
Clark struck out four and walked one to improve to 8-1 on the season. Ashlyn Campbell (2-2) suffered the loss for Delaware State. Campbell allowed five hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out two in four innings.
The game was scoreless until Kansas scored two runs in the third inning. Campbell avoided further damage by getting third out with the bases loaded.
The Jayhawks scored two more in the fourth to open up a 4-0 lead.
The game was stopped when Kansas scored its fourth run in the fifth inning to lead 8-0.
Lukens notched the only hit for Delaware State with a single in the top of the fifth.
The Hornets are 5-7 this season.
