Cary, N.C. (Feb. 27, 2011) --- Delaware State combined for 22 runs and 31 hits in victories over South Carolina State and North Carolina Central in the Lady Eagle Classic this afternoon.

The Hornets (4-1) defeated South Carolina State 12-1 before upending NCCU 10-2. Each game was halted after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

In the South Carolina State contest, the Hornets pounded out 18 hits, while pitchers Amber Coburn and Breanne Parr held the Bulldogs without a hit. Jordan Reid, Casey Beighly and Parr led the way with three hits each. Janelle Lukens, Andrea Waters and Rachel Carroll each had two hits.

Delaware State opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. Lukens, Waters and Stephanie Martello had run-scoring hits in the first.

The Hornets added five runs in the third to open up an 8-0 lead. Delaware State scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Beighly smacked the team's first homer of the season in the fifth.

Coburn tossed 4.2 hitless innings to earn the win.

The Hornets had 13 hits in the win over NCCU. Carroll knocked in three runs, while Beighly and Tawny Reeger drove in two each.

Delaware State scored seven runs in the top of the second to take control. Carroll had a two-run double and Reeger plated two on a single in the inning.

Carroll knocked in her third run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the third.

Beighly allowed five hits and two runs in five innings to earn the win.
