Athens, Ga. (Dec. 30, 2011) --- Delaware State led by 10 points in the first half, but ran out of gas in the final 20 minutes of a 58-51 loss to Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum this afternoon.
Casey Walker led the Hornets with 16 points, highlighted by 4 of 8 shooting from three-point territory. Tyshawn Bell, making his first start, had his first collegiate double-double, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds. Amere May came off the bench to add 10 for DSU. Jay Threatt had a game-high eight assists for the Hornets.
Dustin Ware came off the bench to lead three Georgia players in double figures with 15 points.
Delaware State led 14-4 after a three-pointer by Bell with 12:58 left in the first half. Walker scored the Hornets' first nine points on three three-point field goals.
The score was 29-29 when Georgia's Kentavious Pope-Caldwell hit a 60-foot shot at the halftime buzzer to give the Bulldogs the lead at the break.
Delaware State played its third straight game without leading scorer Tahj Tate (15.4 ppg), who is serving a team imposed suspension.
DSU dropped its fourth straight game to fall to 4-7 this season, while UGA won its fifth in a row to improve to 9-5.
The Hornets will fly out of Atlanta Airport for Washington, D.C. this evening. DSU will take on George Washington University tomorrow. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center in the Nation's Capital.
