THE GAME
Delaware State begins 2011-12 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with a visit to Maryland Eastern Shore. The Hornets are 3-3 this season. DSU is coming off a 57-43 win over Eastern Kentucky at home on Tuesday. Freshman center Kendall Gray had a career-highs of 15 points (7-9 FGs) and nine rebounds, in addition to five blocks to lead the way. Casey Walker shared game-high scoring honors with 15 points. His performance included three three-point field goals. Marques Oliver contributed 13 points (6-9 FGs), nine rebounds and one block to the win. Delaware State trailed 18-17 at the half, but outscored the Colonels 40-25 in the final 20 minutes. UMES (2-7) is coming off an impressive 59-46 home win over Navy on Wednesday. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Hawks. Ishaq Pitts led the Hawks with 19 points (8-13 FGs), while Tyler Hines recorded a "double-double" of 11 points and 14 rebounds.
DSU VS. UMES SERIES HISTORY (DSU leads 50-45)
This will be the 96th meeting between the teams. Delaware State has won 12 of the last 14 meetings to open up a 50-45 lead in the series. The teams split two meetings last season, with each winning on its home court. Delaware State won last year's first meeting 64-53 in Dover, Del. DSU's Casey Walker led all players with 20 points, highlighted by six three-point field goals (6-for-9). Hillary Haley was high man for UMES with 16 points. The Hawks won last season's second meeting 60-50 in Princess Anne, Md. Walker was the only Delaware State player to reach double-figures with 11 points, while Haley and Tyler Hines led the Hawks with 11 each. The Hornets and Hawks are scheduled to meet again on Jan. 14, 2012 at DSU's Memorial Hall.
