THE GAME
The Hornets are trying to snap a two-game losing streak that's dropped its record to 4-5 (1-1 MEAC). DSU has been idle since a 58-42 loss to Delaware in the First State rivalry last Saturday. Casey Walker was high scorer for the Hornets with 15 points, while Amere May came off the bench to add a career-high 14. Tennessee State is 4-6 on the season after a 65-57 win over Central Michigan in its last outing (Dec. 10). Robert Covington led the Tigers with 19 points in the contest.
DSU VS. TENNESSEE STATE SERIES HISTORY (TSU LEADS 2-0)
The teams are meeting for the second straight year and third time overall. Tennessee State has won the two previous meetings, including a 78-63 victory in the "ESPN Bracketbusters" on Feb. 19, 2011 in Nashville, Tenn. Kenny Moore led three Tennessee State players in double figures with 18 points. Delaware State's Casey Walker led all players with 21 points. Jay Threatt tallied 13 points and a game-high six assists for the Hornets. Tennessee State was 29-for-49 from the field (59.2%), including 7-of-14 from three-point territory in the contest. The Tigers also held a 39-25 rebounding edge. Delaware State and Tennessee State first met in the 2004 Las Vegas Tournament. The Tigers won that contest 75-69. This will be DSU's second game against an Ohio Valley Conference school this season. The Hornets upended OVC member Eastern Kentucky 57-43 on Nov. 29 in Dover, Del.
