HORNETS FLY PAST CRIMSON EAGLES 104-41

Dover, Del. (Nov. 23, 2011) --- Tahj Tate led five players in double figures with 18 points in Delaware State's 104-41 demolition of Philadelphia Biblical in Memorial Hall Wednesday evening. The Hornets snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Crimson Eagles fell to 2-2.

Delaware State's Casey Walker had 16 points on six-for-nine shooting from the field, including four-of-seven from three-point territory. Tyshawn Bell came off the bench to tally 15 points, while Jordan Lawson and Amere May added 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Hornets.

DSU senior guard Jay Threatt led all players with eight assists and six steals. Threatt surpassed Emanuel Davis (1988-91) as the Hornets' all-time leader with 187 steals.

Delaware State shot 42-for-79 from the field (60.0%), including 10-of-23 (43.5%) from the beyond the arc. The Hornets also outrebounded the Crimson Eagles 38-28, while forcing their opponent to commit 32 turnovers.

The Hornets hit 10 of their first 14 shots from the field en route to a 25-0 run to start the game. Marcus Oliver scored eight points and Walker six during the spurt. Walker gave the Hornets a 25-0 lead on a steal and lay-up just five minutes into the game.

Philadelphia Biblical scored its first points on a lay-up by Jeff Bishop with 13:53 left in the first half.

After the Crimson Eagles pulled to within 27-7, the Hornets answered with a 24-2 run over the next six minutes. Jordan Lawson capped off the run with a basket to give DSU a 51-9 lead with 4:30 left in the first half.    

The Hornets hit 23  of their 35 first half shots (65.7%) to grab a 57-17 lead at the break.

Delaware State opened up an 89-28 lead on a lay-up by May with 10:36 left to play, and passed the century mark on a three-pointer by Jabari Joyner to lead 101-41 with 2:40 remaining.

Twelve of the 14 players who saw action for the Hornets scored at least two points.

DSU's point total was its highest since a 105-103 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) during the 1994-95 season. It also marked the most points by the team in Greg Jackson's 12 years as head coach.

Delaware State center Kendall Gray had four blocks to give him 10 in the last two games.

Bell hit 5-of-8 shots from the field, including three three-pointers, to improve his shooting percentage to .667 this season (16-for-24).

Tate was 7-for-8 from the field to lead the Hornets in scoring for the third time in four games. He shared the team lead in the other contest.

Delaware State will travel to New York to take on Wagner College on Saturday (Nov. 26) at 4:00 p.m.
