THE GAME
Delaware State visits Notre Dame in its second straight contest against a major college opponent. The Hornets are 1-1 this season. DSU is coming off a 70-52 loss to at Georgia Tech in a game that was more competitive than the score might indicate last Monday. The Hornets trailed 30-23 at the half, and was only down 52-46 after a basket with 8:23 left to play. DSU was outscored 18-6 in the final 8:12 of the game. Tahj Tate and Marques Oliver led the Hornets with 14 points each. Oliver also led the team with seven rebounds and four assists. Amere May came off the bench to add 10 points for the Hornets. Delaware State opened the season with an 86-65 win over Wilmington last Saturday (Nov. 12). Notre Dame is off to a 3-0 start this season, The Irish posted a 74-41 victory over Sam Houston State in their last outing. Pat Connaughtan led Notre Dame with a game-high 24 points. He was 9-for-14 from the field, including 6-of-10 from three-point range. The Irish hit 13 of their 22 first half shots (59.1%), including six three-pointers (6-of-10) en route to a 38-16 lead at the break. Notre Dame also has victories over Mississippi Valley (86-57) and Detroit (59-53) this season.
DSU VS. NOTRE DAME (Notre Dame leads 1-0)
This will be the second meeting between the Hornets and Irish. The teams first met on Dec. 20, 2008 at Notre Dame. The Irish jumped out to a 16-2 lead and never looked back en route to an 88-50 win. Luke Harangody led Notre Dame with 20 points (8-12 FG) and eight rebounds. Kris Douse and Marcus Neal led Delaware State with 11 points each. Notre Dame was 33-for-64 from the field (51.6%), while the Hornets hit 19 of their 51 shots from the floor (37.0%).
