Dover, Del. (June 22, 2010) --- Delaware State University Head Volleyball Coach Renee Arnold has announced that three incoming freshmen have signed to attend the university and compete for the Hornets in the 2010 season.
Middle blocker Brooke Redmon of Warrenton, Va., has joined the Hornets. Redmon, a four-year varsity letterwinner at Kettle Run High School, was a two-time All-District First Team selection (2008-10) and All-Region First Team pick (2009-10). She was Kettle Run's Most Valuable Player after recording 282 kills (.370 hitting %) during the 2009-10 season.
Sonya Inderbitzen of Annandale, Va., is expected to compete at libero for the Hornets this season. A four-year volleyball letterwinner at Annandale High School, Inderbitzen was a three-time Patriot District Honorable Mention selection and Northern Region Athletic Honor Roll pick (2008-10). She also competed for the BAVA Lightning Elite travel team and the Metro-American travel squad.
The Hornets will also welcome outside hitter Jessica Croucher of Brisbane, Australia to the team this season. Croucher, a former member of the Australian National Youth & Junior Team, was a three-time high school Female Sportsperson of the Year. She has also competed in international tournaments for various state and regional teams.
"I'm very pleased with the skill and athleticism of our newcomers," said Arnold, who led the Hornets to a school record 20 wins (20-13) last season. "I expect each of our new players to make significant contributions this season."
Arnold has also announced Delaware State's 2010 volleyball schedule. The Hornets open the season against Elon University on August 27 at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, N.C.
DSU will also compete in tournaments at the University of Buffalo, James Madison, Lafayette and Norfolk State.
Delaware State will play its home and MEAC openers against Howard University on October 15 in Memorial Hall.
The 2010 MEAC Tournament is set for Nov. 18-20 at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Md.
