Dover, Del. (April 3, 2010) --- Trina Kindred was 4-for-4 with five runs batted in to lead Howard to a 13-4 win over Delaware State to complete a three-game series sweep this afternoon.
The Hornets fell to 14-11 overall and 0-3 in the MEAC.
Delaware State scored first when Andrea Waters singled in Chelsea Stern in the bottom of the first inning.
Kindred singled in her first two runs of the game in the top of the second to give the Bison a 2-1 lead.
Howard stretched its lead to 6-1 after scoring four times in the top of the third. Kindred and Ciera Gordon accounted for the scoring with two-run singles in the inning.
The Hornets pulled to within 6-2 when Casey Beighly singled in a run in the bottom of the third.
Delaware State trailed 9-2 before scoring two runs in the last of the fifth. Jo Jo Shields drove in the first run of the inning on a groundout and the second run crossed the plate on an infield single by Janelle Lukens.
Kindred drove in her fifth run of the game on a home run to lead off the seventh inning.
Stern and Tawney Reeger had two hits each for the Hornets.
Delaware State returns to action on Wednesday at La Salle.
