Baltimore, Md. (Apr. 18, 2010) --- Delaware State capped off a three-game sweep of Coppin State with a 5-1 win at the CSU softball complex today. The Hornets won their eighth in a row to improve to 23-12 overall and 6-3 in the MEAC.
Andrea Waters tossed six strong innings and Tawney Reeger drove in two runs to lead the Hornets.
Delaware State trailed 1-0 when Janelle Lukens was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the score in the fourth.
The Hornets took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Waters doubled with one out, and was driven home on a single by Rachel Carroll.
Delaware State added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Reeger's two-run single was the big blow in the inning.
Waters allowed three hits and one run, while striking out six to improve to 9-6 on the season. Brittany Ruark tossed a scoreless seventh inning in relief for the Hornets.
DSU will return to the field this Wednesday (Apr. 21) at home against Towson. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
