Dover, Del. (Apr. 17, 2010) --- The Delaware State football team closed out its 2010 spring camp with a spirited scrimmage at Alumni Stadium this afternoon.
The offense vs. defense scrimmage featured about 60 plays, with each of the team's quarterbacks seeing action.
"Overall, I was pleased with the intensity on each side of the ball," said Delaware State head coach Al Lavan, who is in his seventh year with the team. "Each side made some good plays, and we were able to evaluate a lot of players. "
The offense drove 80 yards for a touchdown on its first possession. Quarterback Anthony Glaud was 4-for-4 during the drive, which he capped off with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Darius Jackson. Glaud also completed first down passes to Travis Tarpley, Justin Wilson and Justin Brewton during the scrimmage.
Tarpley also gained 20 yards on a pass from Nick Elko.
Among the defensive highlights were an interception return for a touchdown by Terrell Talbert and a pick by Chris Johnson.
"We have a number of starting and back-up positions to fill this season, and our primary goal during summer camp was to develop our younger players for those roles," Lavan said. "Our players must continue their conditioning , while we look to add personnel throughout the spring and summer in preparation for the 2010 season."
The Hornets must replace a number of key players, including three starting offensive linemen, from their 2009 squad, which posted a 4-6 overall record and 3-5 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Delaware State will open the 2010 season on Sunday, Sep. 5 against Southern University (La.) in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
