DSU WINS SLUGFEST IN SOFTBALL OPENER

Cary, N.C. (Feb. 26, 2010) --- The Delaware State softball team scored eight runs in the last two innings en route to a 15-11 win over North Carolina Central in the 2010 opener for the Hornets. The teams combined for 25 hits and 11 errors in the contest. Casey Beighly was 4-for-5 with a run batted in while, Rachel Carroll and Tawney Reeger drove in two runs each to pace the DSU attack. Delaware State scored two runs in the first inning and three in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Reeger had run-scoring singles in each inning, while Beighly singled in a run in the second. Chelsea Stern was also credited with a steal of home in the first inning. North Carolina Center scored two in the bottom of the second and four more in the third to take a 6-5 lead. Delaware State trailed 8-7 before scoring five times in the sixth to take the lead for good. Carroll singled in a run, while Jo Jo Shields and Skye Boris also drove in runs in the inning. The Hornets tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh to take a 15-8 lead. Janelle Lukens drove in a run in the inning. Delaware State will play two games on Saturday and two on Sunday in the North Carolina Central Lady Eagle Classic.
