Dover, Del. (Feb. 15, 2010) --- Frisco Sandidge led three Delaware State players in double figures with 16 points in the Hornets' 66-63 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball win over Florida A&M in Memorial Hall Monday evening.
The Rattlers had the final possession, but were unable to get off a shot before committing a turnover.
The Hornets won their third straight game to improve to 14-9 overall and 9-3 in the MEAC. DSU is in second place in the league standings, trailing first place Morgan State by two games. The Hornets will host Morgan State this Wednesday (7:00 p.m.).
Florida A&M fell to 6-19 overall and 3-9 in the MEAC.
Marcus Neal had 14 points for Delaware State. His performance included four three-point field goals. Marques Oliver came off the bench to add 12 for the Hornets.
Florida A&M's Dale Hughes had a game-high 24 points. He was 5-for-6 from three-point territory.
The Rattlers led 16-9 before Delaware State took control in the first half.
Oliver capped off a 14-6 run with a dunk to give the Hornets a 23-22 lead with 5:37 left in the first half. Neal had two three-pointers during the Delaware State run.
The Hornets opened up a 33-26 lead on a three-point play by Terron Stowe with 2:51 to before the half.
DSU led 34-29 at the break.
Delaware State was ahead by as many as 11 on two occasions in the second half; the last time on a jumper by Jay Threatt to lead 57-46 with 7:46 left to play.
Florida A&M refused to quit, and used a late 17-9 run to get back into the game. Hughes capped off the spurt with a three-pointer to pull the Rattlers to within 66-63 with 2:15 left in the game.
FAMU missed a chance to pull closer when Hughes misfired on two free throws with 57 seconds left.
After a Delaware State miss, the Rattlers regained the ball with 22 seconds to go.
Florida A&M was unable to get off a shot before Oliver stole the ball just before time expired.
