Washington, D.C. (Nov. 19, 2010) --- Justin Wilson had nine catches for 217 yards and four touchdowns and Anthony Glaud passed for 351 yards and four scores to lead Delaware State to a 53-43 win over Howard in the season finale for each team at Greene Stadium this afternoon.
The Hornets won for the second time in three games to finish the season with a 3-8 overall record and 2-6 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Howard lost its sixth straight to close out the year at 1-10 and 0-8.
Wilson set a new school record for receptions in a season with 59. The previous Hornet high was 57 by Thomas Bolden in 2004. Wilson also established personal highs for receiving yards and touchdowns in a game. He fell six yards shy of John Taylor's school record of 223 receiving yards in a game. The Windsor, Conn., native entered the game as the MEAC leader in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches.
Wilson closed out the 2010 season with 937 yards and 11 touchdowns. His yardage is third-best and touchdowns are tied for fourth for a Hornet in a season.
Glaud completed 20 of 31 passes for career-highs of 351 yards and four touchdowns. He finished the 2010 season with 171 completions, the second-best single season mark in team history. His 2,075 passing yards in 2010 rank fourth for a single season in DSU history. He finished his Delaware State career with 3992 passing yards on 315 completions. His career yardage total and completions rank third in team history.
Wilson and Glaud connected on touchdown passes of 34, 24 and 26 yards from Glaud, and he scored his final touchdown on a 27 yard hook-up with Nick Elko.
Delaware State trailed 9-0 before Larrone Moore returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown for the Hornets' first score. It was Moore's second kickoff return touchdown this season and third of his career. He led the nation in kickoff return average (32.3 ypr) entering the contest.
The Hornets took the lead for good, 19-16, on Glaud's second touchdown pass to Wilson with 8:16 left in the second quarter.
Delaware State outscored Howard 23-7 in the second quarter to lead 29-16 at the half.
Donnell Dixon also hauled in a 28 yard touchdown pass from Glaud to give the Hornets a 36-16 lead with 13:29 left in the third quarter.
Delaware State's 53 points were its most since a 62-0 win over Concord (WV) in 2006. The Hornets racked up season highs of 400 passing yards and 421 total yards in the contest.
