Dover (Apr. 7, 2009) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team continued its recent dominance with a 7-0 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore at the Colonial Tennis Center this afternoon. The Hornets have won two straight, each by shutout, to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the MEAC this spring.
Delaware State's Polina Razborova and Christina Andrade Pires were perfect in their singles matches. Razborova posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 2 contest, while Pires was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3. Gelis and Pitatelev each improved to 5-2 in singles play this spring.
DSU's Ana Kovtun won in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) in the No. 1 contest.
Hannah Adewumi improved to 7-0 this spring after an 8-0 in in the No. 5 match. Cassandra Newton (No. 4) and Julieta Yung (No. 6) each posted 8-1 victories in singles play.
Pires and Newton teamed up for an 8-4 win in the No. 1 doubles contest. Razborova and Kovtun were 8-1winners at No. 2 doubles, while Adewumi and Yung posted an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 doubles match.
The Hornets will return to action on Monday (Apr. 13) at Drexel in Philadelphia.
