SOFTBALL TAKES NATIONALLY TELEVISED FINALE AGAINST HAMPTON

DOVER (April 22, 2009) ? Junior Brittney Ruark tossed her 11th complete-game of the season as the Delaware State Hornets (21-16, 7-2 MEAC) beat the Hampton Pirates (19-21, 5-5 MEAC) 5-0 today, at the Hornets Nest, on ESPNU.

The Hornets struck first in the second inning, scoring three runs on four hits against HU ace Amanda Black. Both Rachel Carroll and Allison Rubin drove in runs in the inning.

Black and the Pirates allowed two more DSU runs in the fourth inning as Tawny Reeger singled to give the Hornets the 5-0 advantage.

Hampton couldn't muster any runs as Ruark tossed a three-hit shutout for her 13th win of the season. She needed just 85 pitches.

Freshman Bre Parr led all Hornets with two hits while Reeger led the way with two RBI.

Black picked up her 13th loss of the season, throwing five innings and allowing three earned runs.

This was the first time the Hornets have appeared on television in their 16-year history.

DSU will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Howard in a MEAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 28. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
