Norfolk, Va. (March 8, 2009) ? DSU fell to Norfolk State, 1-0 in eight innings but was victorious against Binghamton, 10-2 to finish third at the Spartan Clash. With the 2-2 showing at the tournament, the Hornets are now 6-4 on the season.
Starting pitcher Megan Lambertz threw a stellar game, not allowing a hit until the seventh inning. The Spartans scored the winning run in the eighth and final inning on a fielder's choice. Breanne Parr, making only her second collegiate appearance, had two hits in three at-bats.
In the consolation game against Binghamton, DSU had no problem getting on the board as they scored three runs in the opening frame. Lambertz tallied her first and the team's first homerun of the season in the inning.
In the third inning, Andrea Waters tallied the second Hornet homerun of the season to give the hornets a four-run cushion that the Bearcats wouldn't overcome.
Parr and Waters each had three RBI to lead DSU to the win and the third place finish in the tournament.
The Hornets will play at home for the first time this season this Wednesday, March 11, against N.C. Central in a double-header. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
