Dover (May 4, 2008) --- Brittney Ruark tossed a five-hit complete game and JoJo Shields drove in three runs to lead Delaware State to a 6-2 win over Morgan State in the regular season finale for the Hornets.
Delaware State ends the regular season with a 25-23 overall record and a 10-5 mark in the MEAC North Division.
Ruark allowed single runs in the first and fifth innings. She struck out three without allowing a walk.
Morgan State opened the scoring with run in the top of the first.
The Hornets answered in the bottom of the inning when Shields doubled home Megan Lambertz and Nicole Demers to give DSU a 2-1 lead.
The Hornets stretched their lead to 3-1 when Lambertz doubled in Jessica Chrabaszcz with two outs in the bottom of the second.
Delaware State scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up a 6-1 lead. The first run of the inning crossed the plate on a Morgan State throwing error. Demers added a run scoring single and Shields drove in her third run of the game on a two-out single.
Shields was 2-for-2 at the plate, while Demers and Lambertz added two hits each.
Before the game, Delaware State paid tribute to seniors Kendra Goss and Aisha Holloman, Chrabaszcz and Demers.
The Hornets will return to action next weekend at the 2008 MEAC Tournament in Ormond Beach, Fla.
