HORNETS SPLIT TWIN-BILL WITH MORGAN STATE

Dover (May 3, 2008) --- Sha Tabor drove in four runs to lead Delaware State to a 10-2 win over Morgan State in game two of a softball doubleheader on Saturday. The Bears won the first game 7-1.

 

In the nightcap, the Hornets opened the scoring when Tabor smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. It was her team leading eighth home run of the season.

 

Delaware State stretched its lead to 4-0 when Aisha Holloman hit her fifth homer of the season to lead off the second inning.

 

Morgan State pulled to within 5-2 on back-to-back run scoring doubles by Ashley Vasquez and Tamra Griffin in the top of the third.

 

Delaware State stretched its lead to 7-2 when Nicole Demers and Andrea Waters scored on a throwing error by Morgan State pitcher Porsche Boddicker on a grounder by JoJo Shields in the bottom of the fifth. Demers singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a double by Waters. Tabor knocked in her fourth run of the game when she followed with a double to right center to give the Hornets an 8-2 lead. Manal Ahmed followed with a single to drive in Delaware State's ninth run. The Hornets opened up a 10-2 lead when Holloman drove in Tabor on a sacrifice fly.

 

The game was then called due to the eight-run rule.

 

Megan Lambertz was the winning pitcher for Delaware State. She allowed two runs on five hits in five innings.

 

In game one, Megan Johnson tossed a four-hit complete game for the Bears. She struck out four without allowing a walk.

 

Morgan State opened the scoring when Vasquez singled in Dominisha Britton with one out in the top of the first inning. The Bears opened up a 3-0 lead when Carolynn Howard doubled in two runs in the third. Morgan State tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh inning to open up a 7-0 lead. The big hit in the inning was a two-run single by Karlana Ingram.

 

The Hornets avoided the shutout when Holloman smacked a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

The teams will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday. Start time is 3:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the Hornets will honor their four senior players.
