Hampton (April 26, 2008) --- Aisha Holloman doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to give Delaware State a 5-4 victory over Hampton in the second game of a MEAC softball doubleheader in Hampton, VA this afternoon. The Pirates won the first game 1-0. Hampton (25-15 overall; 8-2 MEAC North) remains ? game ahead of Delaware State (23-21; 8-3) in the MEAC North standings. The three-game series will conclude with a single game on Sunday. In the nightcap, the score was 4-4 after the regulation seven innings. Under extra inning rules, the Hornets began the eighth inning with a runner at second base. Holloman led off the inning with a double the left field, scoring Courtney Taylor to give the Hornets a 5-4 lead. Delaware State had a runner at third with one out, but failed to add to its lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Hampton had a runner at third with one out, but pitcher Brittney Ruark forced Ashley Weissenbach to pop out to second and Britta Davis to fly out to center field to end the game. The Hornets scored three runs in the second inning to grab a 4-1 lead. Andrea Water and Nicole Demers drove in second inning runs, while Lambertz scored on a steal of home. In the opener, Hampton's Amanda Black tossed a six-hit shutout and Angela Balser smacked a solo homer in the second for the game's only run. Delaware State left at least one runner on base in each inning, and nine for the game. Lambertz and JoJo Shields had two hits each for the Hornets. Ruark was the tough luck loser for Delaware State in game one. She allowed just three hits and struck out seven in the contest.
