Dover, DE --- The Delaware State softball team scored 12 runs in the second inning en route to a 17-0 win over Coppin State Saturday evening. The Hornets won their fourth straight to improve to 15-17 overall and 5-2 in the MEAC. The Eagles fell to 0-20 and 0-5. Delaware State was already ahead 5-0 before sending 15 batters to the plate in the second inning, including seven who batted twice. Andrea Waters and Nicole Demers each had two-run doubles in the inning. Brittney Ruark, Jessica Chrabaszcz, Courtney Taylor and JoJo Shields also had run scoring hits in the inning. The Hornets were also aided by three Coppin State errors in the second. The Hornets scored five runs on five hits in the first inning. Shields was 4-for-5 at the plate. Demers had a team high three runs batted in, while Waters, Tabor and Ruark knocked in two each. Ruark (9-8) was credited with win after allowing one hit and striking out four in two innings. The teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Sunday. Game 1 starts at 12:00 pm.
