HOWARD TOPS DSU FOR SERIES WIN

Dover, DE --- Defending MEAC champ Howard scored 13 runs in its last three at bats en route to a 14-6 softball win over Delaware State on Sunday. The Bison won two of three in the weekend series to improve to 9-10 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC. The Hornets fell to 11-15 and 1-2. The score was 1-1 when Howard scored five in the top of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Courtney Young and Brandy Gutierrez each had two-run hits in the inning for the Bison. Delaware State responded with three in the bottom of the fourth to pull to within 6-4. The big blow in the inning was a two-run inside-the-park home run by Andrea Waters. Howard answered with four runs in the top of them fifth to open up a 10-4 lead. The Hornets cut into the Howard's lead again when Jessica Chrabaszcz smacked a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 10-6 game. The Bison closed out the scoring with four runs in the top of the sixth on two-run singles by Sandra Jones and Kristina Cordova. Delaware State returns to action with a non-conference doubleheader at Maryland on Wednesday.
