Newark, DE --- The University of Delaware has softball bragging rights over Delaware State this season after 10-2 and 11-1 wins over the Hornets at the UD Softball Complex today. The Hens improved to 13-9 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 10-13. Delaware swept the season series against the Hornets 3-0. In the opener, DSU scored first when Sha Tabor led off the game with a double, then crossed the plate on a double steal with Nicole Demers. Delaware answered with six runs in the bottom of the first. The Hens did all their first inning damage after the first two batters were retired in order. Delaware added two in the second to take an 8-1 lead. The Hornets pulled to within 8-2 when Aisha Holloman doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Andrea Waters in the top of the third. Delaware's Kim Ovittore smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to give the Hens an eight-run lead. In the nightcap, Delaware scored two runs in the first and seven in the second to open up a 9-0 lead. The Hornets scored their only run in the fifth when Allison Rubin led off the inning with a single and scored on a fielder's choice by Tabor. Delaware State pitchers Brittney Ruark and Megan Lambertz each saw action in game two. Ruark had been out since March 15 after being struck by a line drive. Lambertz had been on the shelf the last three weeks due to a hand injury.
