MD ? The Delaware State Hornets
held off a late Coppin State Eagles run for a 56-48 win and improved to 8-11
over-all and 5-2 in the MEAC. This was
the Eagles sixth loss in a row and they are 4-19 over-all and 0-8 in the MEAC.
The Hornets never trailed in the contest and built their
biggest lead 45-26 with 12:26 left in the game.
With a 29-20 halftime lead, DSU opened the second half with a 16-6 run
capped by Donald Johnson hitting three shots from behind the arc.
The Eagles did not go away and with the help of costly
turnovers by the Hornets, CSU went on a 15-0 run cutting the lead to four
(41-45) with 7:29 left. The Eagles
scored 12 of those 15 points off turnovers.
Regaining their composure down the stretch, the Hornets got
control of the game and led by nine 52-43 with 3:49 left.
Johnson led all scorers with 22 points,
connecting on six of nine shots from behind the three point arc. Joe Dickens and Marcus Neal added 11 points
each.
Antwan Harrison led the Eagles with 16 points and Tywain
McKee added 11 points.
The Hornets will return to action on Monday night at Morgan State
for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
